New comedy play to be performed at the Marina Theatre

A popular television star has described how a brand new comedy play at the Marina Theatre will ensure audiences leave with the “feel good factor”.

Crissy Rock is best known for her appearances in ITV shows Benidorm and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. And now, alongside close friend Leah Bell, she has written and will star in the new play Seriously Dead – at the Marina Theatre on Wednesday, February 1, at 7:30pm.

From the people that brought you Dirty Dusting, the new play considers an ordinary day in the quiet little town of Olwinskirk. But then, a chain of extraordinary events began to take place bringing the lives of Betty, Albert, Billy and the local undertaker, Tristan de Winter, to an uncomfortable crossroads.

Crissy said: “The idea just evolved while Leah Bell and I were touring in Dirty Dusting – talking while driving to the next theatre and making up wild stories. Although we were discussing it for two years, we actually wrote it in four months. I have visited Lowestoft with Dirty Dusting and although only there briefly, I had a smashing windswept walk along the marina. People should come along and shake off the January blues with comedy that will leave you laughing at life (and death) – we make sure that the audience goes away with the feel good factor!”

The production also stars former Emmerdale and Doctor Who actor Frazer Hines, with the original music from Mike Redway.

“When I got the script – I couldn’t wait to do it as it is something so different to anything I have done before,” Frazer explained.

“The audience will get laughs, pathos, and a big finish!”

Full price tickets: £21, Concessions: £20.

Record-breaking panto was fun for all the family!

More than 11,500 people attended the Marina Theatre’s pantomime over the festive season – which starred television actor Jeremy Edwards as Gaston.

Beauty and the Beast, which ran from December 13 until January 1, was the also the highest grossing pantomime produced by the Marina Theatre and Paul Holman Associates.

The 30 performances, which also starred funny man Terry Gleed as Freddy, Britain’s Got Talent’s Rosie Hale as Belle and Matthew Wellman as the Beast, were sponsored by cottages.com.

Lee Henderson, chief executive of the Marina Theatre, said: “I would like to thank everyone who came along to see our fantastic family show. Our fabulous and talented cast were a joy to work with and for me, to hear that so many people enjoyed our touching storyline, was extremely rewarding. The panto season was sponsored by cottages.com and we are extremely grateful to local Lowestoft based regional property manager Victoria Schofield for all her support. The pantomime was extremely successful and it would be great if even more people could join us for next year’s show – which will be Aladdin.”

The performances received a number of fantastic reviews via social media:
Jacqui Loxley posted: “We had a little break for Christmas in Corton and as a Boxing Day treat for the children we booked the panto. Absolutely loved it, kids joined in, laughed so hard and loud and are still talking about it today. Jeremy Edwards was quite pleasing to the eye too!”

Joanne Brown added: “Another year and still we were amazed with the fantastic pantomime show. Love visiting on New Year’s Day and even being the last of the performances the actors and dancers put a high energy fun packed show. Full of laughs and fun for all ages. Look forward to next year.”

Tickets are already available for Aladdin with Terry Gleed again back by popular demand to take part in the festive fun.
